As with any skin care product, we must evaluate the key Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream ingredients to determine if these claims are true. We’ll also take a look at Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream reviews to see what customers think of this product.
What are the key Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream ingredients?
According to the brand, the key Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream ingredients include Padina pavonica thallus extract, Acacia decurrens (mimosa) flower extract, and Rosa centifolia (rose) flower extract. Below we’ll discuss each of these key ingredients in detail so you’ll know exactly how they affect your skin.
Padina pavonica, commonly known as Peacock’s tail, is a brown alga found in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean sea. When applied topically, Padina pavonica thallus extract is thought to function as an anti-pollution active ingredient that protects the skin from environmental pollutants.
Additionally, one manufacturer of Padina pavonica extract claims that it can improve skin resistance by stimulating the synthesis of calcium-dependent cellular structures, such as desmosomes and keratins, which results in stronger cell cohesion. So what does all of this mean? In simpler terms, Padina pavonica extract can help to reduce and prevent signs of aging.
Mimosa flower extract has anti-inflammatory properties, which enables this ingredient to calm and soothe irritated skin.
Rosa centifolia flower extract contains many vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help to moisturize and protect the skin, as well as calm redness and inflammation. Rosa centifolia flower extract also acts as an astringent, which provides a temporary cooling and toning effect. Lastly, Rosa centifolia flower extract imparts a light, clean and sweet scent.
Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream also includes Chlorella vulgaris, a green eukaryotic microalgae. When applied topically, chlorella has been shown to stimulate collagen synthesis. Collagen is responsible for the strength, elasticity, smoothness and plump appearance of healthy skin. Additionally, Chlorella vulgaris extract has an anti-collagenase and an anti-elastase effect.
Collagenase and elastase are enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, respectively. Since collagen and elastin are responsible for the strength and elasticity of skin, preventing the degradation of these proteins is important for maintaining a youthful complexion.
The high concentration of antioxidant compounds found in ginkgo biloba leaf extract, such as flavonoids and polyphenols, enable this ingredient to function as a free radical scavenger. Free radicals are highly reactive, unstable molecules that come from factors such as UV exposure, pollution, smoking, etc. After the skin is exposed to these factors, free radicals can react with important cellular components within the skin, such as DNA, the cell membrane, and collagen.
Damage to these components leads to signs of aging, such as lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. By using ingredients that are rich in antioxidants, such as ginkgo biloba leaf extract, the skin is better protected from free radicals.
One thing to note about the Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream is that it contains quite a few fragrance ingredients. We understand that consumers appreciate when products smell pleasant, but we’d like to point out that fragrance is not skin care. Fragrance ingredients (both natural and synthetic) are well known to cause skin irritation and damage.
You see, fragrance ingredients impart scent through a volatile reaction, and this natural reaction almost always causes a sensitizing reaction on skin. Even if you don’t have a full blown reaction to the fragrance ingredients, the damage may still be occurring every day. Ultimately, this can cause mild problems for your skin in the short term and worse problems in the long term.
ALTERNATIVES: Carrot & Stick The Concentrate. It contains a plant-based collagen blend from rice, soy, carrot, quinoa, and ginseng, for smoother, firmer looking skin.

Chrystal Akridge Original review: Jun 05, 2023.
I received this Elemis pro-collagen night cream in my monthly Epsy bag.
It’s a very thick cream that feels luxurious on my skin. I have very dry skin from the elements living in Idaho. I finally found a night cream that hydrates my skin, as well as smoothing my “50 year old” skin. It doesn’t take my wrinkles away by any means, but there’s a difference. The smell is very pleasant.
