The story behind Dr. Hauschka Skin Care began in 1935, when Dr. Rudolf Hauschka and colleagues founded the holistic pharmaceutical company WALA Heilmittel. “WALA” is an acronym for the process by which Dr. Hauschka developed his rhythmical processing method: Warmth, Ash, Light, Ash. In the early 1960s, esthetician Elisabeth Sigmund recognized the power of rhythm and traditional herbs in helping the skin return to a healthy, beautiful state.
Elisabeth wrote Dr. Hauschka, sharing her ideas for plant-based preparations that would support skin. In 1965, Dr. Hauschka invited Elisabeth to join him at WALA to develop new holistic skin care preparations, and two years later Dr. Hauschka Skin Care was born.
In this review, we’ll discuss some of the brand’s best selling products, key ingredients, Dr. Hauschka reviews from real customers, and more.

What are the best selling Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products?
With a history as long as Dr. Hauschka Skin Care, the collection of natural, sustainable beauty products to choose from is extensive. If you aren’t sure where to get started with this brand, check out these three best selling Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products:
Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream
One of the brand’s most popular products is the Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream. This rich facial cream is meant for those with normal, dry, and sensitive skin. It is said to calm the skin and minimize the appearance of redness, irritation, and couperose.
Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner
The Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner is formulated for those with normal, dry, mature, and sensitive skin. It is said to support the skin’s natural processes of cleansing and renewal, thereby minimizing the appearance of pores, balancing moisture and oil content, and leaving skin looking and feeling healthy, toned, and radiant.
Dr. Hauschka Revitalizing Day Cream
The final best selling Dr. Hauschka Skin Care product is the Revitalizing Day Cream, which is recommended for dry, dehydrated skin and dry, blemished, combination skin. This lightweight facial cream is said to support the skin’s natural oil and moisture production, protect skin, and encourage natural replenishment.
What are the key Dr. Hauschka Skin Care ingredients?
In order to determine whether or not the Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products live up to their claims, we must evaluate all the ingredients in the formulations. Let’s take a closer look at the key ingredients found in the best selling Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products we introduced above.
Key ingredients in the Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream include peanut oil, beeswax, marshmallow root extract, and Rosa damascena flower water. Both peanut oil and beeswax function as emollients, helping the skin to feel soft while also improving moisture retention. Marshmallow root extract provides soothing, moisturizing, and calming effects. The roots of the marshmallow plant produce mucilage, a polysaccharide substance that forms a protective gel which helps to moisturize skin. Rosa damascena flower water hydrates and soothes the skin while also providing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
We’re pretty disappointed in the Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner formula because denatured alcohol is the third highest concentration ingredient. The problem with this type of alcohol is that, at first, it seems like it’s benefitting the skin. Initially, alcohol gives products a quick-drying finish, immediately degreases the skin, and imparts a weightless feel. The major problem with using high concentrations of alcohol is that this ingredient is well known to cause skin dryness, irritation, and even disruption of the skin barrier. In fact, alcohol can dry out the skin so much that the skin will produce more oil over time to compensate for the dryness. This can lead to clogged pores and breakouts.
Unfortunately, Dr. Hauschka Revitalizing Day Cream also contains a high concentration of denatured alcohol. There are many emollients in this cream, such as apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil, olive fruit oil, peanut oil, sunflower seed oil, and more. These emollients should help to keep the skin soft, but it’s important to keep in mind the high concentration of denatured alcohol.
Another problem with Dr. Hauschka Skin Care products is that they are laden with fragrance ingredients (even the products meant for sensitive skin!). We understand that consumers appreciate when products smell pleasant, however, fragrance ingredients (both natural and synthetic) are well known to cause skin irritation and reactions. Even if you don’t have a full blown reaction to the fragrance ingredients, the damage may still be occurring every day. Ultimately, this can cause mild problems for your skin in the short term and worse problems in the long term.
Where is Dr. Hauschka Skin Care sold?
